For importers and contractors, a certificate is only useful if it names the test body and ties to the production line. Here is what to look for.
Must-have for EU / UK
- CE Marking + Declaration of Performance — legal baseline for construction products in the EU.
- EN 13501-1 — reaction to fire classification (aim for B or better for commercial walls).
- REACH — confirms restricted substances are controlled.
- FloorScore / Indoor Air Comfort — low VOC, better for occupied spaces.
Quality management
ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental) signal a manufacturer with controlled processes — important for repeat orders and consistent colour.
A credible supplier explains how a product fails under wrong use. That is worth more than a universal "passes everything" claim.
What to request from a manufacturer
- Test reports from SGS / TÜV / an EU notified body, naming the exact SKU.
- Batch-to-batch colour stability data.
- EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for green-building credits.
